MEMBERSHIP IN THE SOCIETY HAS BENEFITS
2011 Annual membership dues are now available. Only $10.00 for a single membership and $15.00 for a family. Come and spend an interesting evening with your fellow members for seven monthly lectures meetings where you will hear some exciting, fascinating, and interesting tales, both fact and fictional on the history of Upper Canada and Rideau corridor areas. All of our speakers have been well known historians, authors, engineers, archaeologists, museum curators and even a member of the Antiques Road Show. Refreshments are served where you can meet the speakers and pursue any further information or just mingle with other members. We also offer a Newsletter four times a year which features historical highlights.
Besides the lecture series we have a number of actives that you can become involved with, we have our annual Blockhouse clean-up day. We need volunteers to run the Blockhouse on weekends prior to and after the official opening and we need scrutinisers to review and mark the annual Blockhouse Student Essay Contest. We have the Society Archives which continually need cleaning, cataloguing, and filing. All sorts of interesting things for the history buff inside us.
If you have already renewed you membership we thank you and for those that haven't you can do so at the next meeting on May 31st, 7:30 at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys School, Merrickville, where our speaker will be Wayne Poapst, who will speak about the "Snowdon's Corners." We will re-live the hardships of immigration and establishing an area of Grenville County to be known as "The Snowdon Settlement." by a family of Snudden/Snowdon coming from Co. Armagh, Ulster, Ireland, in the early 1800's. Or you can mail your membership along with your cheque to MDHS Membership, P.O. Box 294, Merrickville, Ontario, K0G 1N0
